We have just had the most amazing week with temperatures reaching over 30 degrees. Of course, us Brits always have something to complain about, so here are some hacks for staying cool, hydrated, and protected this summer.
I know, I know, I’m like a broke record, but hydration is the absolute key to keeping healthy. Not only in summer, but every single day. The recommendation for water intake per day is 6 to 8 glasses of water – around 1.2 to 1.5 litres.
If you don’t like water, or struggle to reach your daily intake, there are other ways to overcome this. Although not recommended, you can get your water intake through:
- Fizzy drinks
However, it is not necessarily healthy, so if you’re wanting to get more water in a beneficial way try:
- Infusing your water (Lemon, Lime, Cucumber etc)
- Drink squash
- Flavoured water
- Sparkling water
- Fruits (watermelon, strawberries, applies, oranges)
- Vegetables (Cabbage, celery, lettuce etc)
Now this surely goes without saying… wear sunscreen! It protects an array of factors such as cancer, skin damage, premature ageing, need I say more?
If you need some do’s and don’ts when it comes to sunscreen then you’ve come to the right place.
- Apply at least 15 minutes before going outdoors
- Use a high protection factor
- Keep topped up on your sunscreen throughout the day
- Use expired sunscreen
- Think it is only for fair skinned people
- Rely on makeup as your sun protection
SOS offer a broad spectrum of 5* moisturising and protecting SPF 50 sun cream with active plant stem cells. The mineral based sun cream uses an ultra-sheer form of Zinc Oxide for protection from UVA/UVB and blue light.
Plus, it contains antioxidant vitamin E to help fight free-radical skin damage and is a natural anti-inflammatory that soothes and calms the skin.
Active ingredients of Soybean Stem Cell help to reduce wrinkles and increase skin’s firmness, combined with vitamin E to fight free radicals on the skin.

Wear Lip Balm
This may seem silly, but your lips get seriously dry when exposed to the sun. Your lips are such as vulnerable to the sun’s radiation as the rest of your body. Our lips are generally overlooked when it comes to protection in the sun, so it is super important we keep them protected.
To protect your skin during especially hot periods such as these, we recommend using a moisturising lip balm, or an overnight treatment.
Both lip balm and sunscreen will provide a physical barrier from the sun’s UV rays. Apply the lip balm around 15-30 minutes before going outside and reapply often as they will likely wear off after eating, drinking, licking your lips, swimming etc.
Our personal favourite when it comes to lip balms and treatments is PEP TALK, by GLOW HUB. Pep Talk is a smoothing, nourishing lip balm and overnight treatment, with softly plumping peptides to help boost fullness & define contours.
It is petrochemical free, bursting with nourishing oils (think avocado, castor, rosehip + almond) and it is rich in vitamin e & b to softly plump lips and gives them a hit of hydration.
With a fruity grapefruit scent and a unique team of peptides to help smooth lip creases, define contours & boost fullness for a smooth, plump & pillowy pout! Apply to lips whenever you need a burst of plumping nourishment, or before sleep as a bedtime treatment.
Please remember to keep safe this summer, but also, enjoy yourselves – we’ve earned it!
