Products For Chemically Damaged Hair

Hair can become damaged through a multitude of treatments such as perms, colouring, and relaxants. These treatments individually break down the bonds in the hair strands, leaving them dry, brittle, and prone to breakages.

Although it is inevitable that these treatments will cause damage to the hair, however, there are ways to help prevent further damage and restore the strands.

Olaplex

Olaplex is a company that focuses primarily on protecting the hair from chemical damage. It not only protects the hair from the process to get the desired colour, but it is also formulated to prevent further damage, whilst making the hair stronger, healthier, shinier, and also helps mend some of the previous damage.

Olaplex is available to buy online or from most hair salons. I would recommend the shampoo (No. 4) and conditioner (No. 5), as well as the bonding oil (No. 7), especially if you have bleached hair!!

Nioxin

Nioxin is another brand that focuses its attention on the regrowth of healthy hair. They have many different treatments and a test online that will help you determine the correct tailored treatment for you.

Their regrowth treatment contains minoxidil (an FDA approved medication that is clinically proven to effectively help with the regrowth of hair in both men and women).

Nioxin is designed to stimulate the hair follicle and improve thickness and overall hair growth. They have 6 system kits for both light thinning and progressed thinning of the hair. Each system kit targeting different types of hair (e.g. natural, bleached, etc.).

Having platinum blonde hair myself, I noticed that my hair was beginning to come out a lot especially in the shower and on my hairbrush so I used system 5 which made my hair feel incredibly smooth and healthier.

Other ways to improve the quality of your hair after chemical damage can include:

  • Nourishing hair daily
  • Avoid highly chemical-based treatments/toners
  • Try a hair mask
