Love her or hate her, Nicki Minaj is back with vengeance in her two new visuals ‘Chun-Li’ and ‘Barbie Tingz’. Using the analogy of street fighter ‘Chun-li’, Nicki Minaj uses her rap super powers to take revenge on her haters and the title as ‘Queen of Rap’ in hip hop. The dark visuals, directed by Photographer Seven Klein, feature Nicki Minaj dressed in Asian inspired outfits in a series of animated poses.
‘Barbie Tingz’ has a bright, fresher look. It is set against a white background, and brings to life the caricature we saw in the cover art of ‘Chun-Li’. In the video we again see the diverse nature of the rapper as the visuals show her dressed in a number of different ensembles inter-spliced between dancing scenes. The most symbolic perhaps is that of the marionette as it leaves the audience with the question who is pulling the strings? The video is further reminiscent of how Nicki Minaj first came into the game, with her colourful wigs and barbie inspired expressions.
