Happy International Women’s Day everyone! A day dedicated to the celebration of us amazing, incredible women.
International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women’s achievements or rally for women’s equality.
Marked annually on March 8th, International Women’s Day (IWD) is one of the most important days of the year to:
- celebrate women’s achievements
- raise awareness about women’s equality
- lobby for accelerated gender parity
- fundraise for female-focused charities
How are L’OCCITANE helping with International Women’s Day?
L’OCCITANE has been working with the women who produce shea butter in Burkina Faso since the 1980s with support and co-development in mind. When it was founded in 2006, the L’OCCITANE Foundation chose to extend this partnership with the women to focus its actions on supporting women’s leadership to promote their emancipation. The foundations act on four pillars; literacy, microcredit, entrepreneurship and education of young girls. Since 2006, more than 30,000 women have received support in developing and strengthening their activity in Burkina Faso.
What can I do to contribute to important women-centrered charities?
Every year, L’OCCITANE creates a solidarity product donating 100% of profits to women’s leadership in Burkina Faso. This year, they chose to infuse their beloved Shea Butter Hand Cream with one of the most beautiful African scents, Hibiscus Sabdariffa to celebrate the women. The Solidarity Hand Cream 30ml (£8) donates 100% of profits to women’s leadership initiatives in Burkina Faso – how amazing!
We hope you have a wonderful international women’s day – remember to show those important women in your life how much they mean to you!
