How to throw a Sophisticated Adults-Only Halloween Party

Mention the words ‘Halloween Party’ and you’re likely to conjure several mental images. You might think of drunken teenagers in cheap werewolf masks, or children bobbing for apples. But the season isn’t just for the younger generation: provided that you take the right steps, you can throw a classy Halloween party that grownups will appreciate. Let’s take a look at a few of the elements you’ll need to bring together to make your evening an unmitigated triumph!

Choosing a Theme

Going for a simple Halloween party is a little bit standard issue. If you want to make things more interesting, then why not opt for something specific. A Mexican day-of-the-dead themed party, for example, will allow you an excuse to put on a Mexican-themed buffet while still staying true to the Halloween spookiness that your guests will expect.

Make things competitive

If you want to incentivise great costumes, then why not hold a little competition for best-dressed? You can have all of your guests contribute a small buy-in, and have them vote on the winner, just like on Come Dine with Me. That way, you’ll be reasonably sure that everyone will look appropriately ghoulish.

Putting on Food

on the number of guests you’re planning to invite, you can either have a sit-down meal, a buffet, or just a few snacks. If you want to make a serious impression, then cooking some stuff yourself is obligatory. Create more food than you think you’ll need, and don’t forget to include a vegetarian option. To get everyone moving from room to room, you can distribute bowls of sweet snacks throughout the house, with the sweetest stuff centred where you’d like everyone to congregate. Don’t forget to include drinks – you can track down gin miniatures, as well as smaller versions of a range of different favourites.

Decorate

If your home doesn’t create the right atmosphere, then you party might as well have been held at any other time of the year. That means choosing the right music, but it also means throwing together a few Halloween decorations. When it comes to this kind of thing, less tends to be more: if you just pick too many conflicting elements, then your house might end up looking like a cheap mess. Go for naturally spookycandlelight, a few convincing-looking cobwebs, and plenty of dry ice.

Selecting Games

When it comes to Halloween entertainment, nothing quite beats the classics. But if you’re sticking with the theme, then things like Charades, Trivial Pursuit and Pictionary can all be appropriately spooky – just compose the questions in advance. You might take things even further by composing your own games and quizzes from scratch. Just be prepared to put in a little groundwork ahead of time to get everything ready to go.We
