Having my gel manicure every 3-4 weeks is my monthly treat that gets me giddy every time! The gossip, the colours and the relaxation all contribute to the enjoyment of being pampered. I am going to share some tips on how to keep your gel manicure lasting between appointments and leaving them fresher for longer!
Protect your hands
The most important thing to do when looking after your gels are to protect your hands! What this means is always wear washing up gloves when washing the dishes and even cleaning – the chemicals from the products can make the gel begin to peel.
Conditioning your nails daily works wonders for keeping the growing nail strong and healthy underneath the skin. I use the Naf Stuff cuticle oil pen which comes in a variety of gorgeous scents – I use Pina Colada (mmm!). Plus they’re vegan and cruelty free!
All you need to do is apply the oil to the skin every evening and your nails will become stronger and healthier in no time.
Go somewhere reputable
Going somewhere reputable makes all the difference to making your gel manicure last longer. Someone/somewhere that is reputable will use better quality products and leave you with beautiful nails that can withstand the general ‘wear and tear’.
Don’t use them as tools
Using your nails as tools such as peeling, chipping, or pulling at things will only affect the quality of your manicure. The more you use them as tools, the quicker they will get ruined so please stop!
Gel polish doesn’t ruin your nails, picking them off does!!
When asking my own nail tech for some professional advice, she couldn’t stress this point enough. It is a common misconception that having a gel manicure will affect the quality of your natural nails however this is not the case – picking and pulling the gel off does! By tampering with the product rather than removing it properly will strip your natural nail of all its nutrients, leaving them dry and flimsy.
