The effects of hair loss or a receding hairline can have a dramatic effect on our self-confidence, making us feel insecure and anxious about how we feel others perceive us.
With new evidence that one-in-five people who contract COVID-19 will suffer from hair loss (22%), we thought it would be a good idea to share some tips to help save your hair.
The hair loss side effect is due to a condition known as Telogen Effluvium (TE), a form of temporary alopecia or hair loss caused by hormonal stress or severe systemic infections – such as Coronavirus.
The hair cycle has three main stages:
- anagen or growth phase,
- catagen or transitional phase
- and the telogen or resting phase
At any time, a person on average has around 5-10% of their hair in the telogen phase, which is when the hair shreds and falls out. However, someone with TE will have around 30% of their hair in the telogen phase, causing a noticeable increase in hair loss and the appearance of thinning.
Other important factors that may cause hair loss include:
- generalised stress,
- hair loss as a hereditary condition,
- a sedative lifestyle,
- and a poor diet.
Feed Your Hair
Feeding your hair from within with a healthy balanced diet with lots of protein and Vitamin C along with a good hair care regime (including scalp massage) can help.
Purchasing hair products that contain Keratin will also help with the development of restoring hair growth. When you infuse your hair with a fresh dose of keratin, you can expect your hair to be softer, smoother, and less prone to frizz.
If you have brittle, damaged hair, keratin products can replenish and protect your hair’s natural keratin protein, thereby reversing some of the damage and preventing future breakage.
Invest In A Good Hair Brush
Investing in a good hairbrush is essential to maintaining the quality of your hair. There are many brands of hair brushes out there that are designed to detangle hair without pulling it out from the root. One of these brands that we especially love at Amor Magazine is the luxurious Mason Pearson.
The range of hairbrushes makes re-grooming easy and helps create healthy, shiny hair. They come with natural boar bristle, bristle and nylon mixture, or with all nylon tufts for fine, normal, long, thick, coarse, child’s, or even a ‘sensitive’ version for thinning hair.
Brushing with natural bristles helps to delicately condition the hair by redistributing the oils from root to tip. There is a choice of four colours – dark ruby, ivory white, pink or blue. Prices range from £30.50 to £156.00 approximately and are available to purchase here.
Avoid Heavy Oils
Avoiding heavy oils is important. Excess amounts of oils can trap and attract dirt, dandruff, and product build up, which clogs pores and prevents new hair growth.
However, there are oils that are good for the scalp and hair. A number of essential oils including lavender, rosemary, thyme and cedarwood are effective in boosting hair growth. Some carrier oils like jojoba oil can also be used to improve hair growth.
The unique and powerful natural formula stimulates hair growth, prevents shedding and improves hair thickness and density. Just spray the affected areas twice daily for noticeable effects.
In clinical trials 86% of participants observed a clear reduction of excessive hair loss after 2-3 weeks with 90% noticing acceleration of hair growth during the same time-period.
Founder and CEO of Doctor’s Daughter London, Elena Hachaturianc, says:
“Our Advanced Hair Growth Treatment was created by scientists and dermatologists using cruelty-free, vegan ingredients. Including an intensely powerful blend of vitamins and minerals targeted to accelerate hair growth. All the ingredients work in synergy to strengthen the hair follicles and boost hair growth. As a brand we don’t believe in using silicones, sulphates, artificial colours or fragrances. Just pure, and soothing ingredients that are suitable for the whole family.”
The growth formula is packed with herb-based proteins (such as rosemary and peppermint), Vitamin B and a range of superfoods designed to defend against damage and fight hair loss. It will stimulate dormant hair follicles whilst improving density and growth also.
With even the most luxurious of skincare products now using carcinogenic ingredients, the Doctor’s Daughter range had to use the best available elements, natural anti-inflammatory properties, organic bases, and organic scent. The spray is available to purchase for £38 here.
