Rice water is essentially the left over cooking rice. It has been said to contain essential vitamins such as vitamin B&E as well as minerals associated to making hair less frizzy, shiner, softer as well as growing the hair faster and longer.
Rice water has been used by women in Asia for a long time, they credit the blessing of their long thick hair to the one and only Rice water.
There are many different ways to incorporate rice water into your hair wash day. First and foremost, using organic brown rice would be your calling point as it contains less starch and is essentially healthier for you.
This method is pretty short and sweet, all you really need is brown rice, a container and a lid to put on top of the rice, oh and water of course. Take a ½ cup of uncooked rice and place it in a container and rinse the rice off. Then, take 2-3 cups of water and pour it into the container with the rice. Let it soak for 30 minutes and strain the water into a separate container.
Once you have your rice water, you can put it in a spray bottle and start using as soon as.
The Fermenting Process
The Fermenting process simply requires for the rice to be soaked for 24-48 hours before straining the water into a separate container. This does then produce a foul smell as you can imagine therefore don’t let the water soak for any longer than 48 hours.
It has been proven however that this does produce higher antioxidants, the longer the rice is kept in the water which is amazing for damaged hair. Once again after the 24-48 hours simply put the water into a spray bottle and your good to go.
Rice water is a brilliant step to add to any wash day, all you need to do is wash your hair as normal .. shampoo/condition then spray the rice water all over your hair especially the roots and the ends – let it sit for an hour then rinse it out.
