Chai Naasto Review

Chai Naasto

Address: 103 Hammersmith Grove, W6
Tw: @chainaasto
Cuisine: Indian

Chai Naasto Hammersmith is the newly opened sister restaurant of the long established Beckenham venue. Run by three brothers, who incorporate traditional family recipes from their Nanima (grandmother) into their menu. There is something for everyone on this menu, from juicy kebabs to hearty curries. The menu also offers gluten-free and vegan dishes.

Our picks are the –

Chowk Ki Tikki – (v) Green pea potato cakes with spiced chickpeas, drizzled with a chutneys and sweet yoghurt.

Nargisi Quail Egg KoftasSpicy lamb mince wrapped around quail eggs: crumbed, fried and  served with smoked tomato chutney.

Tandoori Jhinga Chatpata – (gf) – King prawns marinated in red chilli, black pepper, ginger, yogurt and fresh lemon juice, glazed until golden in the tandoor.

Tuna Fish Nu Shaak – (n) Tuna cooked in an onion & tomato gravy with Nani’s homemade spices. We got this with a side of butter naan.

All dishes were amazingly tasty, fresh and original. Our top pick would be the Chowk Ki Tikki, as it was unique and the mix of flavours were gorgeous.

Try their Chai Star Martini. It’s a delicate blend of vanilla Vodka, passion fruit, homemade vanilla chai syrup, lemon and Prosecco. Similar to a porn star martini with an undertone of vanilla.

For dessert we had a medley of a few different treats. We tried their Phirni Crème Brûlée (Indian rice pudding with nutty caramel), white chocolate samosas and the brownie Chaat (spiced chocolate orange brownie served with vanilla ice-cream, salted caramel and toasted nuts). We found these desserts to be the perfect end to our meal. All three were bite size, super tasty and not too heavy.

Chai Naasto advertise themselves as, “street food with a seat” and that’s exactly what they offer. The menu features all sorts of appealing dishes, that have your eyes wandering, but there are some true winners on there.

The service is friendly and the atmosphere is nostalgic, with portraits of their Nanima and Aunty and a wall full of Bollywood movie stars.  The decor is quite basic, but well thought out and authentic.

Chai Naasto is a must visit with plenty dishes that’ll leave you satisfied.

Ideal for: A casual date night and a catch up with friends.
