Woman Crush Wednesday : From Business Analyst to Beauty Vlogger, Patricia Bright

Upon turning 30, British style and beauty vlogger Patricia Bright has successfully built an empire through her YouTube channels. Recently hitting a 2 million subscriber milestone, Bright has come a long way from her early days as BritpopPrincess. She is now a wife and mother, having tied the knot in 2012 to her husband Mike, and welcoming their daughter Grace in 2016 – both of whom are regularly featured on her channels.

Patricia launched her YouTube channel in February 2009 after growing bored of studying finance. In July 2010, she created a secondary vlog channel, Britpoplife, which now has over 300,000 subscribers. In her vlogs, she shows her followers how to wear the latest fashion, apply current makeup trends and encourages body confidence and self-love.

Before her popular channels, she graduated with a master’s degree in accountancy and finance and worked as a Business Analyst intern at the prestigious American wealth management firm Merrill Lynch for 5 years.

When commenting on her career change, she admits to initially keeping her vlogs a secret from friends, family and colleagues, as those around her discouraged her, telling her it was dangerous, especially if future employers were to find it. However, that never stopped her.

The full-time blogger says YouTube has opened so many doors of opportunity, from meeting her peers to working with brands such as Diet Coke, L’Oréal-Paris, NCS and Khloe Kardashian. In 2015, she was awarded The Most Innovative Fashion Videos by InStyle Magazine.

In spite of her success, her career hasn’t always been smooth sailing. In 2014 she admitted to having breast augmentation surgery after she came under fire from followers who noticed the social media star’s changing appearance.

In the vlog she explained why she hadn’t originally shared the news. Many of her followers were hurt and disappointed, with some thinking it was hypocritical because of her constant proclamation of self-love and body confidence. She defended these claims by explaining that cosmetic surgery hasn’t changed this.

Having learnt from this, Patricia’s best advice for those wanting to start a YouTube channel is to be honest and transparent and do it for the right reasons. For this she is this week’s Amor’s WCW!

It’s onwards and upwards for this successful beauty entrepreneur, as she is currently working in collaboration with MAC Cosmetics to develop a blogger-inspired lipstick line with her own shade.
