Celebrity couples have had a huge influence on normal relationships, almost warping our sense of a healthy relationship. Don’t get me wrong, it’s hard being in the limelight and trying to make relationships work. You can never get away from celebrity relationships, you’ll always hear/see something on the radio, the TV or even from your neighbour. But there are couples in the spotlight who keep things private, which in our day and age isn’t such a bad thing.
Brangelina are a classic example, this couple have clearly been through the works. With Angelina Jolie at risk of breast cancer, she took the courageous decision to have a double mastectomy. Brad has shown support for his then wife. Even though they may now be going through a divorce, they’ve both maintained a level of maturity through this. While it has got slightly messy, for years these two love birds were all our couple goals!
However, other celebs have strived to maintain the stereotypes of A-Listers not maintain good relationships. Take Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries, married for a record breaking 72 days! During their divorce Kris sued Kim for fraud, claiming she had only married him for publicity. The divorce took so long that Kim started a new relationship with now husband, Kanye West, and was pregnant with his child before the divorce was settled. One at a time Kimmy!
Couples representations on reality TV can also create a negative representation of a healthy relationship. Shows such as Geordie Shore, Ex on the Beach and Love Island all have the same pattern of strangers living together and seeing what happen (very student like). Before these types of shows the idea of an open relationship was considered abnormal, but as these couples are blasted on our TV screens, the concept is becoming more common.
