The English dictionary defines self-made as – made by ones self or having become successful or rich by ones own effort.
When I think of self made women, I think of Oprah Winfrey, founder of Harpo productions.
The reason why my interest is fixed on Oprah is because she was born and raised in poverty. Despite the turmoil she experienced throughout her childhood and early adult years, Oprah used what she had come from to motivate her in bettering her future. She is now a self-made multi-billionaire.
So, what traits and skills do all self-made women have in common?
- Self aware
There is nothing stopping us from obtaining these qualities too.
We know, that life sometimes isn’t straight forward and 9 times out of 10 it feels like there is always something to knock you of your throne. This can understandably leave us feeling depressed, demotivated and anxious to make another move.
However this can be beaten, here are 3 tactics that I use to keep going when I feel like giving up.
1. SELF REFLECTION
Self reflection is so important for acknowledging how far you have come. Reflection on each hurdle you’ve passed and each step you have made is allowing yourself to recognise progression. Therefore enabling you to keep your eyes on the prize (that’s your goal).
2. TO DO LIST
Yes it might sound basic but it’s more effective than you may think. Adding notes on your list such as; how long a task may take or when you would like to achieve this task by is also a bonus. Writing down a To Do list not only keeps you on track but it deletes procrastination and ensures productivity. As well as lessening the chance of anxiety and most importantly gives a sense of purpose.
3. GET TO KNOW YOURSELF
It might sound silly, but how well do you really know yourself? It’s vital to understand how you work. What motivates you, makes you want to go out and make a difference? Gets you out of bed and makes you feel excited and joyful? Once you find the answer to this (this might be a little scary) your close to finding your purpose. These things will surely make it easier to wake up to do the things you love.
Every woman has the potential to become self made. It’s all about conditioning your way of thinking to get yourself there.
