The ladies of the UK rap scene just dropped a bomb on the internet, by releasing the visuals to rapper Lioness ‘DBT remix’ featuring Queenie, Stush, Shystie, Lady Leshurr and Little Simz.
Showing that there is indeed power in numbers, the often overlooked UK female rappers unite in an empowering anthem, showcasing their lyrical prowess and letting audiences know that there is indeed a place for them in the UK charts. The track plays with the stereotypes that are often thrust upon women of colour such as the ‘angry black woman’ and highlights loving the skin you are in and ending shade wars between light skin vs dark skin.
The refreshing track beautifully shows the diversity of UK female rappers, with a surprise appearance from artists such as Shystie and Lioness who have been fairly quiet on the music scene for a while. This UK female unity has us wondering if collaborating on tracks is set to be a trend this year, particularly as we had Mable, Raye and Stefflon Don all featuring on the song ‘Cigarettes‘ earlier this year, if so we are all here for it!
