Cucina Verde at Carluccio’s

Cucina Verde @ Carluccio’s

Address: Barrick Street
Tw: @Carluccios
Cuisine: Italian/Vegetarian

Being a carnivore at heart, I don’t really entertain the idea of meat-free Mondays, but I don’t mind eating a vegetarian dish every so often.

At Carluccio’s they have created a special vegetarian menu that we got to try out.

We started by sharing the Crostini Al Funghi – mushrooms and kale sautéed with garlic and chilli served on toasted ciabatta. This is a new addition to their menu and it was a great choice. The taste of the garlic and chilli really gave flavour to the kale.

For my main, I chose the Penne Giardiniera – giant Pugliese penne with courgette, chilli and garlic, served with crispy spinach balls and Italian cheese. The spinach balls were delicious! They were stuffed with spinach, cheese and nutmeg and could easily replace a meat based one any day!

We also tried out the Orecchiette Al Cavolfiore. This was also a new dish. The orecchiette was in a light cauliflower sauce with sautéed kale, chilli and roasted turmeric cauliflower florets. Topped with capers and garlic & herb breadcrumbs. The taste of cauliflower was very prominent in this dish, but nonetheless a pleasant dish.

To end our lovely meal, we shared a selection of sorbet. The Amalfi Lemon and Passion Fruit sorbet mixed together were a treat.

We also had some Frangelico and Disaronno Amaretto digestives. These were velvet smooth and gorgeous to taste.

The cucina verde menu is a lot smaller than I expected, but still covered a good range of dishes.

We really enjoyed the food and it definitely filled us up. I’d recommend the Penne Giardiniera, it was an appeasing dish.

DISCLAIMER – The Cucina Verde menu exclusively at Carluccio’s in Covent Garden, is available for just one more Monday so book now!

Ideal for: Vegetarians and vegans
