The Clifton Review

The Clifton

Cuisine: British

FOOD:

We had brunch at this newly re-opened pub one Saturday and had reserved our stomachs for some promising food.

Sat in the conservatory of the restaurant, we examined the menu with ravenous eyes. Starting off with a pot of English breakfast tea and a cappuccino, we set our sights on the food.

I went for the waffle with Dingley Dell Bacon, a fried duck egg and a side of black pudding. This was very good – the eggs were sunny side up just how I like them, the bacon was not too fatty, the black pudding were crumbly and also not too fatty and the waffle was fluffy.

We also got some Mersea oysters on the side, which may not be to everyone’s fancy, including our own.

My guest went for a classic breakfast item – eggs Benedict.

OVERALL:

Located on a residential treelined road, The Clifton, which had been vacant for over 3 years, was re-opened by brother’s Ben and Ed.

The interiors are homely and the conservatory area, especially on a nice sunny day, makes you feel like you’re in an intimate setting of somebody’s house.

Although the menu is brief, it features fresh local produce and brunch classics for those that like to stick to what they know. This place is definitely worth visiting for brunch, as you can tell effort has gone into preparing their food.

Ideal for: Brunch
