It’s Movie Monday and with two of Hollywood’s hottest actors cast in the latest Sci-fi thriller, Life, we feel it’s really worth talking about. But with a similar story line to legendary films like Alien, will it be one to watch?
Amor Rating : 3/5
Sent on a voyage to space to intercept a space probe carrying a sample of a life from Mars, this six man crew have no idea what they are about to discover. Once they have the small single-celled organism on board, the excitement that their great scientific experiment might uncover a new life form away from Earth begins to mount. But, a few hours later they are quickly beginning to wish they had never started this mission.
After neutering this once tiny organism, the team become victims of what has transformed into a murderous monster that has already wiped out the whole of Mars. With it’s immense strength and crushing grip, the crew are soon playing a very tense game of peekaboo with the deadly creature.
As they head back to earth, the crew must fight to not only for their lives, but also to the save the world. If they bring back this monster from Mars, who knows what will happen to the whole human race. However, as the battle for survival begins, what lengths will each of the crew go to to save their own life?
Like all films that see astronauts, scientists and doctors head out into the known in the search for signs of life beyond earth, Life offers everything you would expect. It’s a mission that goes horribly wrong and you can’t help but see the similarities between this latest blockbuster and all of the space films that have been released before. Sadly, as wonderful as the combination of Jake Gyllenhall and Ryan Reynolds sounds, Life is proving to offer nothing new and exciting.
With rushed scenes and set-ups similar to the Oscar-winning ‘Gravity’, newspaper critics are saying Life is failing to thrill. However, if you’re a true sci-fi fan and enjoy seeing aliens take over the world, then this is for you.
