Movie Monday: Beauty and the Beast

Movie Monday: Beauty and the Beast

It’s the latest Disney classic to undergo a remake, it includes heartthrobs, acting heroes and Hermione Granger. It’s hitting the big screen this Friday; this Move Monday we’re talking about the magical Beauty and The Beast.

Amor rating: 3.5/5

The Plot:

In keeping with the original, this live-action remake of Disney’s 1991 original animation follows the story of a beautiful young woman (Belle) who is captured by a fearsome Beast in exchange for her father’s freedom.

Whilst locked away in the Beast’s castle, Belle befriends the castle’s spellbinding staff, including the charming crockery set and a candle.  Her new friends tell her about the awful curse placed on their master and how he must find true love before the last petal of the rose falls to return to human form.

As time goes by, she slowly sees beyond the Beast’s hairy exterior and falls in love with the harmless and once handsome Prince that lies within. Will they live happily ever after? As the petals continue to fall, an arrogant and aggressive hunter, Gatson, has set out to kill the Beast and marry the beautiful Belle.

Like all Disney classics, the story is filled with many magical moments, a million sing-a-long songs and truly happy ending.

Our Thoughts:

As we all secretly still love a Disney classic, it is guaranteed this film will leave you with a smile on your face. The cast and directors have done well in remaking this classic, with brilliant musical numbers and convincing performances.  The set and wardrobe are also amazing and the CGI effects bring this fairy tale to life.

With the addition of two new songs and an extra 45 minutes of feel good fantasy, we are finding it hard to find things to complain about. Not everyone agrees. Some critics are saying while it is set to be a big hit, it isn’t the movie we’ve all been waiting for.

With nothing new and all of the classic ingredients from the original, the remake may not be the showstopper some might be hoping for, but it is still one magical movie.

The Cast & Director:

Director: Bill Condon

Cast: Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Ian McKellen, Luke Evans, Josh Gad, Emma Thompson, Ewan McGregor, Kevin Kline and Stanley Tucci.
