Tosh Alexander is the hottest thing out of Jamaica right now and she is back with her new single ‘Bubble’ a fierce party starter mixed with a touch of old school dancehall. Tosh who is based between the US & Jamaica has worked with some big names including Pharrell Williams, Ky-Mani Marley, Busta Rhymes & Nicki Minaj where she featured in their music for TWERK IT!
We caught up with Tosh to find out more about her new single ‘Bubble’ and her work as an artist.
Tell us more about your new single ‘Bubble’?
Bubble is a dancehall track that embodies all that is confident about a woman. Loving herself and being sure of herself – how she looks, how she feels, how she commands a room… it’s hers to own no matter who else is around.
How would you describe your music?
My music is an eclectic mix – much like me. It reflects my upbringing (JA & USA) and personality meek with a bit of edge (r&b and dancehall)
How do you want listeners to feel after hearing your songs ?
I want listeners to feel like they can relate to my music and that they want to hear more. My music elicits emotions and I want to connect with listeners
What inspires you as an artist?
I am inspired by everyday life, whether it’s things happening in the news or in my household … I am touched by a plethora of people, places and things daily.
What songs are currently on your playlist?
Oldies Dancehall and Lovers Rock like 90s Dancehall from Buju to Sanchez to Beres and the Queen Lady Saw
Who would your dream collaboration be?
My dream collaboration would definitely be The Carters – Bey & Jay
Here at Amor Magazine we are all about educating, empowering and uniting women. What advice would you give to a female artist starting off in the music industry?
My advise would be stay true to yourself and that the Universe always has a way of working everything. Put what you want out there and allow it to come back to you.
You featured in Busta Rhymes #TWERKIT featuring Nicki Minaj, how did the collaboration come about?
This collab came about after having previously worked in studio with Pharrell and Busta and Busta asked me to jump on a track which was TWERK IT the rest is history
The music industry like many can be highly competitive, do you feel the competition? If so how do you deal with this?
I personally, I love competition as it drives me to be better but I don’t get caught up in competing I simply focus on bettering myself and my craft
How do you want to be remembered as an artist?
I want to be remembered as relatable and authentic
What’s next for Tosh Alexander?
Next up for me is my 1st performance on Sumfest, delivering really great music and taking my career to the next level
