10 foods to get you in the mood for less

Turning up the heat this Valentine’s Day shouldn’t cost you an arm and a leg with an abundance of low-cost aphrodisiac foods available.

“Where romance is involved, there’s no need to scrimp – everyone should be enjoying the occasion to the max and it’s all about the right cuisine.”

Here’s a list of low-cost foods to woo your love that are available in most supermarkets: 

1. Duck

Duck is a well-known aphrodisiac and duck legs in particular are full of flavour, making perfect additions to casseroles, curries and stews – a pack usually costs around £3 in most supermarkets.

2. Oysters

Oysters contain dopamine – a crafty chemical that increases desire. Look out for fresh oyster deals at your local supermarket deli, prices usually average around 75p each – way less than you would pay eating out at a fancy fish restaurant! And they usually go even lower in the run up to Valentine’s Day.

3. Chilli peppers

Chilli peppers stimulate your tongue nerve endings and release adrenaline – so liven things up with a hot addition of diced chillies in your valentine’s dish, a pack is usually around 50p in most supermarkets. 

4. Chocolate

Available almost anywhere for pennies, chocolate contains phenylethylamine, a natural stimulant that promotes excitement and a sense of well-being. A large bar of dark chocolate is usually around £1 at most major supermarkets.

5. Figs

The photogenic fig – these little critters are not only insta-worthy but high in amino acids – known for boosting libido and sexual stamina. A pack of fresh figs is often around £2 in the fresh section of supermarkets.

6. Asparagus 

Asparagus is known for its high levels of vitamin E which increases blood flow to all the feel-good areas of the body. It’s also rich in potassium which is linked to an increase in sex hormone production. It prices in cheap at around 95p per pack at most supermarkets.

7. Avocados

Avocados contain folic acid, vitamin B9 and B6 known for increasing energy and testosterone levels – so after gorging on this delicious fruit you’ll more than likely want to ‘avocuddle’. A pack of two comes in at around £2 in the fruit section of supermarkets.

8. Pomegranates 

There’s nothing better than tasty sweet juicy droplets of pomegranate to add a dash of flavour to sweet and savoury dishes. The superfood contains lots of antioxidants that help deliver more blood flow to areas of the body – including the genitals, which can often help performance (if you know what we mean). You can find them in the fruit section of most supermarkets, a pack of four is usually around £1.50.

9.Red wine

Warm both your hearts with a dash of red wine, it contains resveratrol, a powerful antioxidant which decreases inflammation and helps get your blood pumping. A bottle of red wine starts as low as £3.50 in most off-licences and supermarkets.

10.Coffee

Good old coffee! A stimulant of the body and mind – it awakens your senses and increases stamina – for whenever you may need it. A 100g pot starts as low as £1.85 in most stores and supermarkets.
