It is no surprise that denim has become one of the most popular fabrics in the world and the one most prone to renovate itself through the years. From the 50’s worker’s staple garment, to all the pop stars obsession in the 90’s, it is not going anywhere.
But double denim is just not enough anymore. Without a doubt, every year, since the 90’s the double denim combo has managed to creep its way back into our wardrobes (even after Britney and Justin destroyed it for us in 2001). However, this year it is time to become a triple threat with denim X3.
Shirts, jeans, jackets, boots and even a denim cap, the combinations are endless. Mix up the tones, change the colours and shake up the structures to deliver the triple threat not to be reckoned with. Already showing us how it is done: Gigi Hadid, Rihanna and Emily Ratajkowski have all adopted the trend in their own personal way this year.
There were no surprises when denim was once again a prominent piece at this season’s fashion week. However, the likes of Sacai’s Chitose Abe, insisted that triple denim would be seen with his slim trousers, oversize jacket and slick belt on the runway. Whilst Glenn Martens doubled up on the denim jacket making it look like a triple threat, as the jackets functioned as a skirt, top and jacket.
As tricky as it maybe to imagine three different denim garments all fitting together to make one outfit, it can be done, and is actually works very well. The less you think about it, the better. Effortless styling is the key: quick, easy and effective.
