The heatwave is gone, Love Island’s over and football’s asked if it can stay over at its mate’s house, all of which can only mean one thing – autumn is coming! I for one, am incredibly excited. Cosy jumpers, pumpkin spice lattes and my favourite spooky holiday are all just a stone’s throw away and I cannot wait.
I decided to cast my mind back to the AW18 fashion shows back in March to refresh my memory as to what makeup looks we can expect to be seeing a lot of this autumn and to make sure I snap up the best budget brands to ensure I’m fully on trend. I’ve put together a list to share with you what the main trends are and how you can best recreate them without forking out half of your pay-check.
Wherever you looked on the AW18 catwalks, there were bright colours on almost every model’s faces. Be that the bright-red siren lip at Brandon Sanderson (by M.A.C., nonetheless) or the vibrant purple winged shadow look that Pat McGrath created for Prada. The bolder and brighter, the better.
Try Revolution’s Soph X eye-shadow palette (£10, Superdrug) to recreate the look on a budget.
Apparently, this year, glitter isn’t just reserved for festival season. Giambattista Valli even went so far as to cover his model’s entire faces with silver, holographic glitter. Grab yourself some Glitter Primer Dew and whatever colour Professional Makeup Glitter you fancy from NYX (primer £8 and Professional Makeup Glitter £6, Boots) and go wild with it.
After perfectly arched brows, to feathered ones and even braided ones (yes, really!), brows are finally taking a breather and going au naturel for this season. Almost every fashion label had their models rocking bushy, natural brows on the AW18 catwalks. Just brush them upwards using an eyebrow brush and leave them be! Definitely the cheapest trend this season, if nothing else!
Nude Smokey Eyes
Whilst colour was prevalent on most model’s faces, there were also a lot of nude looks too. Glossy nude pink lips were complementing bold eye looks, and soft, golden eyes were complementing bolder lips. Think of suede and tan shades, with a dash of a golden shimmer for good luck. Try out NIP+FAB’s Sculpted 1 Eyeshadow Palette (£12.95, Superdrug) and pat an MUA’s Undress Your Skin Highlighting Powder in Iridescent Gold (£3, Superdrug) over the top for added glamour.
And there you have it – the essence of autumn. Dig out your checked skirts and leather jackets and pack up your sunglasses and crop tops, because autumn is just around the corner.
