5 Natural Ways to Fight Acne

Acne is a problem many suffer with. It is generally caused by genetics, hormonal imbalance, reactions to medication, skin irritation, stress, clogged pores, excess oil production, etc.…

There are so many skincare brands and products dedicated to helping us to achieve clear, blemish free and acne free skin, but if you’re looking for solutions inspired by mother nature, here are 5 natural remedies to fight acne and keep your skin happy.

  1. Tea tree essential oil

Tea tree essential oil is amazing for acne! Its inexpensive, highly effective and a little goes a long way.

Paying extra attention to the eye area, apply tea tree oil directly to skin, or dilute with another carrier oil such as, coconut, almond or olive if you have sensitive skin. However, if you have oily skin, you may want to avoid adding using a carrier oil as this is not ideal. You can also add a few drops to your daily facewash to keep breakouts at bay.

Tea tree essential oil has proven anti-bacterial properties, so it will destroy acne causing bacteria that breeds in the excess oils on your face.

  1. Frankincense Essential Oil

Another essential oil to add to your collection here. Frankincense oil has been around for years and if it was good enough for baby Jesus, it’s good enough for you.

Just like tea tree, it can be applied directly to skin or diluted with a carrier oil. Frankincense will act as an anti-inflammatory, so it will reduce redness & swelling and as a powerful astringent, it will also protect your skin cells. For a great night treatment, why not mix a few drops of tea tree to your frankincense. Thank me in the morning.

  1. Honey, Lemon and Brown Sugar Scrub

If you’re after a little extra TLC for your skin, you need some of this mask magic.

Don’t be put off by the exfoliation in this treatment. For healthy skin, you need to exfoliate at least once a week and the ingredients in this scrub are great for stubborn breakouts and acne prone skin. Mix 2 table spoons of honey,

If you experience excessive redness, swelling and itching, stop using immediately.

I have personally tried this one and it gets a thumbs up from me

  1. Apple Cider Vinegar

No need to spend money on commercial toners, apple cider vinegar is here!

Mix equal amounts of apple cider vinegar and water, because used undiluted, it can burn. Soak your cotton ball and apply to a cleansed face. Allow the treatment to dry before applying a moisturiser.

ACV is a great natural way to keep acne away, it does this by balancing your skin’s pH levels, so it keeps your skin from becoming too oily or too dry. However, if you have sensitive skin, ACV will probably do more harm than good, so avoid it please.

  1. Food

Want to permanently get rid of acne, I encourage you to watch what you eat because indeed, you are what you eat. Acne is the external reflection of your dietary intake. In some cases, certain foods and diets may be the primary cause of acne: so I come bearing good news…try these 3 tips and you can eat your way to healthy, beautiful, clear skin!

  • Reduce your diary intake for a 2-3 weeks and track the improvements in your skin.
  • Include zinc supplements for supple skin
  • Ditch extra sugary foods but keep the dark chocolate, it contains anti-oxidants!
