We are not even halfway through the year but without a doubt can we call it the year of Drake. Hands down we can proclaim 2016 as the year of Beyonce with her chart-topping Lemonade followed by a killer world tour. While Drake was a big success in 2016 with the release of Views and his successful Summer Sixteen Tour with Future I believe that 2017 has truly been his year.
Kicking off the year with his Boy Meets World Tour which saw 8 shows at London’s O2 Arena filled with tunes new and old as well as an array of guests including Giggs, Skepta, Nicki Minaj, Trey Songz, Section Boyz, Kayla Popcaan, Jorja Smith and many more artists Drake really brought his fans a show pulling out all the stops.
As if that wasn’t enough, following the release of Fake Love and Sneakin at the beginning of the year he dropped More Life an album which he described as a playlist. This, as expected, was met with much praise and success topping various charts and became his seventh consecutive number one album to top the Billboard 200, while also breaking several streaming records.
Since he has completed his tour, he’s been relatively quiet possibly taking the well-deserved break he has certainly earned. Sunday’s Billboard Award showed Drake is not an artist who is here to play.
Taking away a sweeping 13 awards and breaking the record previously set by non-other than Adele he certainly showed that he is not an artist to underestimate. His wins included Top Artist, Top Male Artist, Top Song Sales Artist, Top R&B Collaboration, Top Billboard 200 Album and many more.
Drake is on fire and no doubt has this shown this is his year.
While we are only in the fifth month of 2017 this has really shown that all the work Drake has put i
n over the last couple of month has paid off. No doubting there has been an evolution from his first album Thank Me Later to where he is now and love him or hate him you have to respect his hustle.
As a Drizzy fan I am excited to see what happens for Drake next and how the rest of the year shapes out for him. This all just shows you, you should never underestimate anyone.
